Manaus - Amazonas

This city is an entrance to the rainforest of the north region.

It is an important point for eco tourism.

This is a metropolis that counts with 2.4 millions of residents.

The city has a colonial origin, which can be placed in The XVII Century. The region was inhabited by indigenous people, called The Manaos; that is why the actual name of the city.

A gigantic symbol of the economic development of that region, in that time, was The Theatre of Amazonas, in which, the most famous European opera companies played.

Some other recommended places to visit are:

The region of Humaitá. An optimal place for fishing. It is located near The Roosevelt and Madeirinha Rivers, 959 kilometres from Manaus.

Barcelos. This city contains many tourist attractions that are ideal for fishing and ecologic excursions. The National Parks of Jaú and Sierra de Aracá are situated in this zone.
