Tourism in the Rainforest of Amazonas, Brazil - Zone covered by rainforest is considered the largest of the world and the richest, in terms of biodiversity.

Floresta Amazônica - Amazonas

This rainforest covers the half part of the Brazilian territory and, also, it extends itself through Colombia, Venezuela, Peru and Ecuador.

The Brazilian part of The Amazonas River is placed between the cities of Manaus and Belém, in the north region of the country.

The zone is covered by rainforest. Its 5.5 millions of kilometres make it the largest of the world and the richest, in terms of biodiversity.

Manaus, in the border of The Negro River (The Black River), is the depart of several trips to The Amazonas River.

The Amazonas River

This is the principal river of the main hydrographical basin of the world. Its 6.868 kilometres represent the fifth part of the drinking water of the planet.

This river begins in Peru, in The Andes, and it flows in The Atlantic after crossing the north part of Brazil. Before receiving the waters of The Negro River, in Manaus, The Amazonas is called Solimoes.

The level of the river goes up in November and, progressively, reaches its maximum elevation in July. Then, it descends again, progressively, and reaches its low elevation in October. This annual period is continuous.

Such decrease and increase is a result of the rainy season and the thaws in The Andes. The colour of the water of The Amazonas is brown because of the soil that the river carries on its way.

Negro River

The tannin, a substance that can be found in the leaves of the trees, turns the water of this river into a dark aspect.

This river crosses the whole State of Amazonas. It has some beaches with white sand and specific zones with little cascades, ideal for bathing.

Into this river, the major fluvial archipelago of the world runs. It is The Archipelago of Anavilhanas, which is formed by 600 inlets and islands.
