Salvador de Bahia is regularly frequented by local tourists and outsiders. This is other entrance door to the north - east of Brazil. It is popular because of its wide avenues, efficient and easy access to the tourist centres.
A famous sing from Bahia "There is no most beautiful than you" presents an indirect description of the city. A poet called it "The land of happiness".
The city was declared Human Patrimony by The UNESCO thanks to its admirable traditions, a result of a combination of diverse cultures: European, African and American.
In fact, Salvador has a cultural and racial mix that dominates every cultural manifestation, it means, folklore, gastronomy and craftsmanship.
An interesting place to visit is the historical centre of Salvador, Pelourinho, where the major colonial architecture, in Latin America, from The XVI and XVII Centuries, is placed.

Salvador de Bahia is very popular because of its carnival, one of the best of the country. In Bahia, when people is not celebrating, they are planning a celebration. During the famous carnival, more than 2 million people traverses the city, by dancing and playing along 25 kilometres of streets and avenues.
There are three carnival circuits:
*Osmar, the ancient one. Through here, the most traditional groups make their show.
*El Dodó, an exclusive zone where the sites of the famous people are situated.
*El Batatinha, the one that traverses Polourinho.
This city has more than 40 kilometres plenty of beaches distributed between the upper and the low parts of the city. These beaches have crystalline and calm waters.
These beaches are ideal for fishing, swimming and diving.
Other places to visit in the littoral of Salvador are Todos los Santos island, Itaparica and De los Frailes island. Every year, in this city, competitions of oceanic fishing take place. The most important fish to catch is The Merlin.

This place is also known as "The Brazilina Polynesia". There are a lot of ways of entertaining. There are jeep trips, horse riding and hikes. This zone possesses a 12 kilometre beach limited by tunes and coconut trees, and some beautiful natural pools in the middle of the sea. A popular beach is Playa do Forte.

In Playa do Forte, an interesting project is taking place, it is a project oriented to the preservation of the marine turtles. Such project is integrated by students and professionals from every part of the country. Consequently, in this region it is interesting to visit The Museum of The Turtle.
