Maranhão - Brasil

This State has the major diversity of ecosystems in Brazil and it possesses the major coral bank of South America. Such ecosystem comprehends: rainforest, littoral, reeves and fences. It has a population of: 6.184.538 inhabitants.

Maranhao also holds one of the richest historical, architectural and cultural patrimonies in Brazil.

The State contains 640 kilometres of The Atlantic Littoral.

Maranhao was conquered by French, Dutch and Portuguese explorers in the name of their own Crowns.

Sao Luis, the capital of The State, is an entrance to it. The city has been declared Human Cultural Patrimony by The UNESCO. Nowadays, it has 957.899 inhabitants.

This is one of the most amazing ecosystems of the world. It is the unique desert on the earth that contains thousands of crystalline drinking water lakes. Moreover, it possesses a sea of dunes that covers 70 kilometers of coast.

The landscape is incredible: the arid zone is plenty of oasis and palms. There are lots of lakes with blue and green waters, which, in the period of rain, produce a wonderful contrast with the dunes covered by white sand.

As a matter of fact, this is one of the most beautiful locations of the south littoral.

The park is enormous and there are no special roads to get there. So, to visit it, it is necessary to rent a 4*4 vehicle.
