The State of Para possesses the largest fluvial archipelago of the world: Marajó Island.
Marajó is an ecological sanctuary, it preserves 50.000 kilometers of islands and inlets irrigated by drinking and salad waters, that come from The Pará River and the Atlantic Ocean respectively.
The islands are inhabited by communities who descend from the pre-Columbian civilization The Marajoara. Such populations hold some of its ancient traditions.
Nowadays, in Para, 40 native communities are protected by The Indigenous National Foundation.
The most important oceanic beaches are the ones located in the zone of Salgado (Salina and Marudá) and the one situated in the zone of Bragança (Ajuruteua).There are different tourist areas that may have split as:
Belém, capital of Pará state has concave surface, forming small villages’ surroundings. Most of the 55 islands are wild and uninhabited, others have groups of inhabitants. The most crowded are Mosqueiro Island - surrounded by14 fresh waters beaches-and Caratateua. Other beaches are Belém surrounded by Tatuoca Island, where the only geodesy station of America Latina is, one of the only 7 ones in the world.
It is located on the shores of Bahía de Guajará, in the estuary of Tocantins and Pará. The city was founded as port in 1616. Known as “Cidade das Mangueiras” because of the existence of great number of mango trees.
Tapajós - In this pole is able to enjoy from one of the spectacular, scene that the nature can offer: the meeting of the waters of the rivers Amazon and Tapajós. In this zone also can admire exuberant landscapes with fluvial beaches, waterfalls, forests, rocks and old drawings. It offers the possibility to the tourist of participate of important manifestations cultural of the people of Pará, as the party of the Çairé celebrated in the month of September in Santarém and the festival of the tribes in the town of Juruti, during the month of July. The main cities are Santarém, Cheerful Hill, Oriximiná, Alenquer and Óbidos.
Araguaia Tocantins - Setting for those that prefer the ecological tourism and of Adventure. Here tournaments of sporting fishing are carried out of the state in the lake of the hydroelectric one of Tucurui. Also it offers beautiful fluvial beaches, being that some ones only appear in the summer of the Amazonian. The Araguaia – Tocantins also setting where events of the rural area are carried out. The main cities are Tucurui, Marabá and Conception of the Araguaia.
Marajó – Has a strong appeal for the ecological tourism, here is found the bigger maritime and fluvial island of the planet, the Island of Marajó located in the discharge of Amazon. Also offers a rich gastronomy and interesting native legends, the nature offer to the visitor a magnificent natural spectacle called Pororoca. Others attractive are the craft, beaches and landscapes of the marshland that constitute a harmonious assembly of cultural manifestations, fauna and flora, with relieve for buffalo that live in the island. The main cities are Soure and Salvaterra.
Amazonia Atlantic - Located in the northeast region of the state, unites beach, mangles, wild islands and resorts of summer. This region has the sea and offers an extensive setting of cultural manifestations as dances of the carimbo, lundu, brega and lambada.
Xingu – Pole for those that like the ecological tourism and the sporting fishing. Most of his territory is virgin; the areas inhabited are an agricultural border in expansion the productivity contributed with the growing Brazilian Records. It offers idyllic landscapes as the backup of fishing of San Benedito, the river Curuá and the waterfalls of the river Xingu. Altamira is the main city of this pole.
The state population is: 7.110.465 inhabitants
Its capital Belém whose population is: 1.408.847 inhabitants.
