Cuiabá - Mato Grosso
It is the capital of Brazilian state Of Mato Grosso. The municipality is located on the left bank of Cuiaba River, forming a city council with Varzea Grande municipality.
According statistics of 2008 by the IBGM, Cuiaba has 544.737 inhabitants and Varzea Grande more than 750.000 inhabitants.
It was founded in 1719. After gold exploitation finished, the city was not developing to beginning of XX century. After that, the city grew in inhabitants more than the national average get to the peak in 1970 and 1980.
The last 15 years its gradual growing went down in the country. Nowadays, besides the political-administrative functions, it is the industrial, commercial place from the state services. It is known as “Green City”, because of the abundance of trees.
