Belem - Pará
This is the capital of The State of Para. It is placed in the border of The Guarajá Bay. The city is formed by a group of rivers and islands. Its fluvial port is considered the most active one of the northern region of Brazil.
Belém is the point of depart of many journeys and trips towards beaches and some other ecological and tourist sites.
One of the most popular religious celebrations of The State takes place in this city: "El Cirio de Nazaré", a party to honour The Madam of Nazaré. This festivity begins on the second Sunday, on October.
The city keeps its antique culture and history through its beautiful constructions from The XVII and XIX Centuries.
The tourist infrastructure is ample.

Espaço Sao José Liberto - Sao Jose Convent was built in 1749 by the capuchin friars of “Nossa Señora da Piedade”. It is located on the bank of a small river known as Comedia dos Peixes-boi. The next decade, after the Jesuit ´s expulsion from Brazil, the building of long walls built on stone and fish roux, was also a gunpowder’s´ deposit, quarrel, hospital and prison that were closed in 2000. The construction was totally restored and re-inaugurated on October 11, 2002 with the name of San Jose Liberto where it functions the following: the museum of Gemas do Para, the Polo Joalheiro and the Casa del Artesano. It was turned into an authentic showcase of jewels and the crafts made in Para state.
Visiting hours: Tuesday to Saturday from 9h to 19h, on Sunday and holidays from 10h to 19h.
