It is located in the north coast of Rio, in the region of Los Lagos (The Lakes).
This is also a location with beautiful beaches and several tourist attractions. It is well known thanks to the big quantity of tourists who visit it during summer: more than 600 thousand people per year.
It is a balneary that is placed in a peninsula. It contains 24 beaches with warm and clear water.
The activity in Búzios begins after midday, the stores open from 15.00 until midnight.
Búzios used to be an unknown calm fishermen community, but in 1964, the French actress Brigitte Bardot came to visit the beautiful beaches. Since then, the city acquired an international fame.
Among the most important beaches, it is possible to mention: Geribá, Joao Fernandes, Joao Fernandinho, Tortuga, Herradura and some others like:
Baía Formosa. An ideal beach to practice sailing.
Da Tartaruga. An inlet formed by natural pools.
Das Virgens. A solitary beach surrounded by abundant vegetation.
Brava. It is placed near to the centre of the city. It covers 500 meters with soft and dark sand. Its big waves are ideal for surfing.
Da Ferradurinha. A beach with fine clear sand and calm blue water. It is a natural pool recommended for swimming and diving. Close to this beach, by traversing a rocky zone, there is Dos Amores beach.
Dos Amores. A lonely beach too. Its calm sea is ideal for bathing and family trips.
Herradura. It is also located near to the centre of the city. It has a particular horseshoe shape covered by cacti, bromelias and different types of trees. It is 1.5 kilometres long. It is a perfect place for nautical sports.
Azeda. This is a 300 meter beach with warm transparent water ideal for bathing and diving.
Da Armaçao. This was the beach that was frequented by the movie star Brigitte Bardot during the 60¨s. It is one of the best places to contemplate the sunset. It is a recommended place for nautical sports. This site contains ancient colonial houses and the remains of an antique shipyard for fishing boats.
Da Foca. A lonely beach with big waves. It is a natural pool enclosed by rocks. It is 50 meters long.
Azedinha. It is situated next to The Azeda Beach. It is a small place with clear transparent waters and clear sand, special for diving.
Joao Fernández. It is located near to the centre of the city. It is constantly frequented.
Joao Fernandino. A free little beach that is recommended for families.
Olho de Boi. An isolated beach for nudists.
Do Forno (Forninho). This is a small inlet formed by natural pools with calm waters, which are ideal for diving.
José Goncalves. A lonely small beach with brave sea.
