Ilha Grande - Rio de Janeiro

125 kilometres from Rio de Janeiro.

It is placed to the south of Rio de Janeiro´s coast, in the littoral.

A place with attractive beaches and many tourist attractions.

Ilha Grande is the most important island of the littoral of Angra dos Reis.

It preserves a crystalline and clear Atlantic glade.

It comprehends 106 beaches. It covers 174 kilometres approximately.

In one of the island sections, The Provincial Park of Ilha Grande is located. This park is the Biological Reserve of The Sur Beach, it is totally covered by thick and exuberant tropical forest.

The way to the island is very attractive. The boat sails over green waters and through gross tropical vegetation.

Cars are not allowed in the zone, so, it is a recommended place for walking.

Besides, it is exiting to dive under the caverns of The Acaiá Cave that is situated in the south-west point of the island.

Among the most important beaches, it is possible to mention:

Feticeira de Iguazu. This is an ideal beach for families and bathing. Its sand is very clear and, by walking 30 minutes, it is possible to visit The Feticeira Cascade.

De Abraao. This is a small community that counts with some commercial centres and dwellings. This place is the leave point for ship trips and hikes.

De Julia Comprida (Da Bica). Beach with transparent waters and a maritime access.

Grande das Palmas. This is an ancient community of fishermen. A beach with gross sand and palm trees.

Dos Mangues. A recommended place for nautical sports.

Lopes Mendes. This beach is crossed by three rivers. Its sand is fine and its water is transparent.

Cachadaco. This small beach was formed from a river outlet.

Jorge Greco Island. This island has a solitary beach which is perfect for fishing and diving.

Aventureiro. It is inside the biological reserve. It is a recommended place for surfing.

Provetá. It is a 500 meter beach with gross yellow sand. It is regularly visited.

Ponta Gruta de Acaiá. To enter to this beach it is recommendable to count with an expertise guide because it is necessary to dive or to climb among stones.

Grande de Aracatiba. This beach contains a little port. It is regularly frequented. It has calm waters and fine sand.

Ubatubinha. It is located between the beaches of Tapera and Sitio Forte. It is an excellent location for diving. It also contains a little port.

The Beaches of Passaterra, Maguariquecaba and Sitio Forte. These places possess a rich and abundant marine fauna and they are ideal for diving.

Freguesia de Santana Leste. This small island has a natural pool with blue water called "Laguna Azul" (Blue Lake). It is also ideal for diving.
