Niterói - Rio de Janeiro
This city contains beautiful beaches and historical pirate fortresses. At 21 kilometres from Rio de Janeiro.
To arrive in Niterói, it is necessary to cross The Rio-Niteroi Bridge in the direction of other cities (Búzios, Cabo Frio) inside the region of Lagos.
In the present time, this city is very popular and frequented. Its tourist infrastructure is ample.
The most important beaches are:
Boa Viagem. This beach is placed near to The Museum of Contemporary Art. A gangway joins the beach and an island. Two interesting locations to visit are The Chapel from The XVIII Century and the ruins of the fortress. This is a recommended site for families.
Icarí. This is a popular urbanized beach. From the beach, it is possible to observe The Santa Cruz Fortress, The Pao de Azucar and The Corcovado.
Sao Francisco. Also, an urban beach, that counts with a celebrated nocturnal life supported by restaurants, bars and discos.
Charitas. This is an urban beach with calm sea, which is perfect for travels by boat.
Jurujuba. It is located in a fishermen community. It is well known because of its diverse marine fauna.
Piratininga. This beach is situated in a residential area, it is also called Praiai. It is 3 kilometres long approximately. Its sand is white and the water is clear.
De Sossego. A little beach that is almost hidden between two other beaches: Piratininga and Camboinhas.
Camboinhas. This beach is placed in a residential neighbourhood, it is enclosed by luxurious houses and buildings. The water is clear and the sand is white. It is recommended for fishing.
Itacoatiara. This beach is ideal for surfing.
De Itaipu. It is an urban beach visited, specially, on weekends.
