Located in the metropolitan region of Sao Paulo, 26,5 km away of the city of Sao Paulo in Da Sé square. It has 3.509 inhabitants per square kilometer; Barueri is among the ten municipalities whose population is bigger than the state of Sao Paulo.
Barueri doesn't have rural area and its population is all concentrated one in the urban area having almost is entirely paved (99, 9%) roads. Its drinkable water extension is of 420 km reaching the whole city and its sewer system has 270 km.
Barueri was founded in the time of the missions Jesuit to medium of the XVI century.
According to the historians in their origin called you Village of Baruery, been founded in November 11, 1560 by the father José of Anchieta that erected a little in the right margin of the River Tiete but it arrives of the fork with the River Barueri Mirin, the chapel of Nossa senhora da Escada, nowadays the employer of the Municipality.
The Name Barueri comes from the mixture of the word French barriere (barrier, fall, obstacle) with the word indigenous mbaruery (jumbled river), meaning jumbled river.

The word Barueri in the language Guarani tupy doesn't mean lovely red flower that, as many they believe. Perhaps for the reason that you/they existed behind to many years red (hibiscuses) flowers in their margins it could have this comparison.
