Itatiaia is a privileged place by nature. It contains the most ancient National Park of Brazil, that was created in 1937.
Its vegetation is formed by big trees and wild fauna. It covers 30.000 hectares.
This city is well known thanks to its majestic peak (2.791 meters above the sea level) called "Aguilas Negras" (Black Eagles), that is the last point of the Park. It is an ideal place for trekking.
The best time to visit the lowest part of the Park is from October to February. The best time to visit the upper part of it is on August.
A very interesting place to visit is The Visitantes Museum (The Visitors Museum) and The Flora and Fauna Museum.
The city has a well planned tourist infrastructure.
A very popular journey is Senda de los Tres Picos (Three Peaks Path).
