Itú city is located 100 Km. from Sao Paulo.
It is considered the exaggerated city because of its enormous objects. From Sao Paulo, it is possible to arrive by Castelo Branco highway, and then continue by Archimedes Lamoglia highway.
Tourism in Itu will be a great adventure for children adults, young and old people. The city has many attractions, ranches and camping with animals, horse ridings, fishing, museums, religious and rural routes, adventure sports and cultural life.
Main attractions of Itu
Historic zone: The streets in the downtown invite you to walk appreciating the Brazil history, considered the republic beginning in this 397 years old city.
The main attractions are monuments like Cruzeiro of San Francisco, Casa imperial, Sao Luis Factory, Almeida JR. Cultural Space, Architectonic group of XIX century and “Casa del Barón”.
Museums: Republican and “Museo de la Energía”.
Iglesias: Bom Jesús, Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria (Mother church).
Take advantage of the beautiful July Sundays and get walking to the historic center, appreciating the past marks in still existing constructions.
Exaggerations: The Main Square has enormous objects: A public telephone, a traffic light and other enormous monuments. The public telephone is a tourist point, and one of the responsible for making Itu famous as: “city where everything is big”.
The public telephone and an enormous traffic light that entertain children because of its size are in the same square. For completing the walk, there is no option like buying a giant souvenir for your friend or family.
Several stores in the square offer a lot of giant objects, from cotton swabs and bills to hammers and big pens. O Gigantão store offers special attention.
Itu´s Churches:
- Senhor Bom Jesus Church: Built in XVII century
- Church of Santa Rita: Built in 1728
- Church of São Benedito: Founded by Franciscan Fathers who came from Portugal. After a fire, the church was rebuilt in 1910.
- Nossa Senhora Mother Church: Built in 1780
Republican Museum: The Republican museum was built about the middle of XIX and conserves a photography collections, documents, objects and works of art, that are the memories of Partido Paulista Republicano.
