Angra dos Reis - Brasil

Angra dos Reis is a city located in the south coastline of Rio de Janiero state, between Mangaratiba and Paraty. It is located in Costa Verde no sul Fluminense in Rio de Janeiro and has a 365 islands. It was discovered in January 6, 1502, two years after Brazil discovering by Pedro Álvarez Cabral.

Angras was only colonized in 1556. Its population in 2006 according census was
144.125 inhabitants.

The city occupies a narrow area between the mountain and the sea, making it be among chaotic one, but it has its wonderful places.

In Angra dos Reis located Almirante Álvaro Alberto Central Power Station in Cunhambebe district and are generator of electric power of Rio de Janeiro.

The economy in Angra dos Reis depends from fishing, port activities, generation of electric power in Angra I and Angra II plants of naval industry (Keppel Feels) and tourism.

You will visit Angra dos Reis islands by sea. Nowadays, its incredible beauty of beaches and its regions turn into main tourist place in your visit to Rio de Janeiro. In the region, the most visited beaches are Guaratecaia, Manducaba and Concepción of Jacarei in Mangaratiba district, and Sororoca beach.

Extreme sports

Angra region is appropriated for jet –sky. One of the best places is Ribeira bay which is covered by islands and the continent.

Main beaches

Da Ribeira Beach

Da Ribeira beach has clear waters, white and fine sand. It is possible to arrive on foot, from Do Contorno highway, and begins in the downtown. Da Ribeira church is located; in front of it. There are Do Coqueiros and Cavala islands, has natural pools and is very crowded because of its restaurants at weekends and holidays.

Brava Beach

Brava beach is inside Nuclear Power Station, workers village. If you go by car, the entering is free after a fast revision. It is very visited by surfers of Fluminense coast; its waters are green, clear, 4 meters deep, with fine and white sand.

Vermelha Beach

This beach has a narrow strip plain of yellowish sand with some falesias, is 150 long. It is possible to visit it through local condominium, close to the local, there is a sink ship called California, one of the best points for diving in Angra dos Reis.

Dos Macieis Beach

Narrow beach with coasts and stones among the sand, is appropriated for diving and nautical sports, whose access by an ephemeral entering that goes through Do Leme fort.

Beach of Manducaba

The beach has 4 Km. of urbanized sector on a fluvial anchor. The Basin of Manducaba River divides the beach, in one side, the residential village of Furnas Centrais Eléctricas, and on the other side the historic village with Do Rosario church, very frequented by visitors. The beach is 50 Km away from Angra do Reis centre.

Island of Paqueta

Island of Paqueta was turned into a traditional tourist center in Isla Grande bay. It has rudimentary bars; you can also taste the best fish of the region which are generally fish by the local owners or inhabitants of this place.

There are beach options for all preferences, inside there are calm waters with a lot of sand and a few wind. On the other side, there is a little beach full of stones, a lot of wind and high tide. This place is crowded in high season.

Beach of Garantucaia

It is one of the first beaches of Angra do Reis municipality, bordering Conceiçao de Jacarei district with some tourist services. Some years ago were exclusive of condominium. It was opened to public by Angra mayor’s office.

By land

The main highways are: BR 101(Rio-Santos), BR 116 (Rodovia Presidente Dutra RJ/SP) and RJ 155 (Rodovia Saturnino Braga, link Municipality of Volta Redondo in Angra dos Reis).

Nilton Barbosa Station(Angra dos Reis)
It is located at Chácara beach, 2,5Km from the downtown. The new Station of Angra dos Reis has two loading platforms, on 1.700 meters, a parking lot for 61 cars and a taxi stop for five cars, offers to buses company the best conditions for working and efficient service to users.

Main Attractions

There are ships decorated, full of people who sell clothing known as “abadas” that are used for entering to the party, if you want to march past in Alto Mar festivity where everybody go on procession to “Las Flechas” beach in Gipoia island with music and entertainment. The departure time is at 10:00 from port of tourism, on January 1 and the return is at 14:00hrs for the award to the best decorated ship. Anybody can participate; he should register his ship in this event organized by department of culture.

SHIP DEPARTURE OF ANGRA DOS REIS

The ships depart from port of Lapa in the center of Angra dos Reis and they does Angra/Abraao route. The other routes are done by small rent ships and fisher’s ship that carry you to Proveta beach and are cheap.

The tickets are sold in the same place of boarding, close to old terminal. The ships can hold up from 500 to 1000 passengers. The loadings that exceed more than 50kg, additional rate is charged according the office direction.

In Mangaratiba city

Mangaratiba is located 493Km away from Rio-Santos highway.

 

The daily crossings towards Ilha Grande by ship depart from central port in Manragatiba. The destination is always Villa do Abraao(old Cornerj) Phone: (021) 2789-1473.
