Palacio do Catete, Rio de Janeiro - Brasil

The palace is related with Brazil politic history. The palace is a privileged scenario of the most important events of the country, and a kind of celebrity in our history, from the Brazil emperor Don Pedro II, and then it turns into Republic museum. Its saloons were witness of many events, from war declarations and receptions for princes and kings.

The first inhabitant in the palace was Antonio Clemente Portuguese, the Baron of Nova Griburgo. In 1858 it acquired a house in Do Catete Street which later, was demolished together with other land in Do Principe Street, nowadays is Silveria Martins Street to Flamengo beach. In 1860, the garden works was extended to two terrains next to it.

After the owner and his wife death, the palace was inherited to their children who sold it to a hotel. Then, it felt into state hands in 1896.

Do Catete palace was synonymous of power between 1896 and 1960, before Brasilia was inaugurated.

Sixteen presidents goes by it, the last one who occupies the palace was Juscelino Kubitscheck who turned into a museum. Inside one of the most dramatic historical facts the Getulio Vargas suicide occurred inside his room in 1954.

R$ 3 Older than 65 years old
Children under 10 years old have free entering
